Man dies in Howard crash

March 31, 2007

A Halethorpe man was killed late yesterday afternoon after his motorcycle veered off a Howard County highway and hit a fire hydrant.

Daryl Lee Leake, 38, was killed near West Friendship about 5 p.m., Howard County police said. He was heading east on Old Fredrick Road, near Mount View Road, when he veered off the right side of the road and struck the hydrant, police said.

Leake, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the 2003 American Ironhorse motorcycle and killed on impact, according to a police news release.

Police were continuing to investigate the cause of the crash last night.
