Pregnant woman shot at motel

A pregnant woman was in critical condition after being shot early yesterday at an Odenton motel, Anne Arundel County police said.

About 3:30 a.m., police arrived at the Royal Inn in the 1600 block of Annapolis Road and found a 23-year-old pregnant woman who had been shot. According to police, the woman had been in a room with two men, ages 21 and 22, when they heard two other men trying to pry open the door of their room. When they could not open the door, the men outside fired shots into the room as they fled, police said.

The woman, who was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, was the only one injured. Police have not released the victim's name.

Woman's remains discovered

The skeletal remains of an unidentified woman were discovered last night in a narrow strip of woods between homes in the Randallstown section of Baltimore County, police said.

The body was discovered shortly after 4 p.m. by a resident of the 3100 block of Persimmon Tree Court who was retrieving golf balls. The condition of the body led police to believe it had been in the woods for a long time.

Police said there was no reason to believe that the body was that of Deysi M. Benitez, 25, of Frederick, the missing mother of four children who were found dead Monday in their Frederick townhouse, along with the body of their father, who hanged himself.

Police said the body found in the woods was removed to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy.

In an effort to identify the remains, police were reviewing reports of women missing for a lengthy period in the Randallstown area.
