Stewart tosses perfect game for St. Mary's

John Stewart struck out 10 and pitched a perfect game for host St. Mary's as the Saints defeated Mount Carmel, 8-0, yesterday.

The Saints (2-2) handed the Cougars (3-1) their first loss.

Stewart also went 2-for-3 and had three RBIs.

No. 8 Franklin 16, New Town 3 -- Matt Levinson (two RBIs) hit a double and a triple in a five-inning win for the visiting Indians (1-1) over the Titans (0-1). Franklin scored eight runs in the second inning.

Hereford 6, Lansdowne 1 -- Billy Pearson pitched five innings, struck out four and hit a single as the visiting Bulls (2-0) defeated the Vikings (1-2).

Softball

No. 9 Seton Keough 1, IND 0 -- A sacrifice bunt by Courtney Kane drove in pitcher Meghan Kovacs to provide the lone run for the Gators (1-1) in their victory over the visiting Indians (2-1).

Annapolis Area Christian 1, McDonogh 0 -- The Eagles (3-0) remained undefeated as Bekah Wahl pitched seven shutout innings against McDonogh. Wahl also provided the winning run with an RBI triple in the third inning. She had 14 strikeouts.

North County 4, No. 6 Northeast 0 -- The game was scoreless entering the top of the eighth inning when pitcher Heather Karasek hit a double and drove in Chelsey Marshall to give the Knights (2-1) the go-ahead run. North County scored three more to put away the host Eagles (1-1).

No. 13 Broadneck 4, South River 1 -- Kourtney Salvarola pitched a complete game, had 13 strikeouts, and hit a bases-empty home run as the host Bruins (1-0) defeated the Seahawks (0-2).

St. Paul's 17, Garrison Forest 3 -- Sarah Meil pitched a five-inning complete game. She struck out nine and hit a single as the visiting Gators (1-0) defeated the Grizzles (0-1). St. Paul's scored nine runs in the top of the first to set the tone for the game.

Girls lacrosse

No. 9 St. Mary's 9, Maryvale 8 -- Erin O'Donovan scored the game-winning goal with 6:20 left to help the Saints (2-1) defeat the visiting Lions (0-3). Caroline Cochran scored three goals and added two assists to lead St. Mary's with five points.

Perry Hall 16, Sparrows Point 4 -- Jen Semler scored five goals and had three assists to lead the host Gators (1-1) over the Pointers. Jen Schmitt scored six goals for Perry Hall.
