Mount Hebron girls lacrosse streak reaches 98

Top-ranked Mount Hebron opened its girls lacrosse season with a 25-1 win over host Wilde Lake yesterday.

The victory pushes the Vikings' winning streak to 98 games.

Alicia Krause scored a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists. Ashley Bruns (four goals, one assist) and Cindy Heiser (four goals, one assist) each added five points for Mount Hebron.

Freshman Beth Glarof scored the goal for the Wildecats (1-1).

Mount de Sales 10, Catonsville 9 -- Hannah Curch, Meg Decker and Caitlen Hoffen all scored two goals to lead the visiting Sailors over the Comets.

Baseball

No. 4 Centennial 7, Howard 4 -- Ben Winter went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs to power the visiting Eagles past the Lions in the opener for both teams. Winning pitcher Alex Bechta went six innings, gave up three hits, two runs, two walks and struck out five.

Fallston 10, Harford Tech 0 -- The host Cougars (2-0) used a five-run fifth inning to defeat the Cobras (1-1). Zach Zarbros (2-for-3, three RBIs) hit his third home run to break a scoreless tie.

Boys lacrosse

No. 7 Severn 8, DeMatha 7 -- Stevie Kirkup had a hat trick to power the host Admirals (3-1) past the Stags (1-1). Severn led 4-1 after the first quarter, but DeMatha pulled to within one goal twice in the fourth quarter.

Softball

No. 11 Hammond 5, Marriotts Ridge 0 -- After throwing a perfect game against North Harford on Wednesday, Stephanie Speierman gave up one hit and struck out 18 to lead the host Bears (2-0) over the Mustangs (1-1). She also homered and doubled yesterday.
