Roch Around the Clock

The Kickoff

A crowd of 8,661, the third-largest recorded at Fort Lauderdale Stadium since the Orioles moved into it 12 years ago, saw the Boston Red Sox post a 2-1 victory yesterday.

Lots of Red Sox fans, as you can imagine. Once again, they've taken over the Orioles' ballpark.

I'm sure they were thrilled that David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez and Jason Varitek weren't on the trip.

Peter and John Angelos sat in the owner's box. I loved it when they started The Wave.

Just kidding.

The Orioles continue to discuss the merits of carrying 13 pitchers at the beginning of the season.

Vice president Jim Duquette said if he had to make a prediction yesterday, the team would have two left-handers in its bullpen. The Orioles also want a long reliever, and Jeremy Guthrie's name keeps coming up. That would seem to leave Williams and Rob Bell battling for the last spot if they keep eight relievers.
