`Rebel Without a Cause' is part of Slayton film series

Slayton House Theatre in Wilde Lake Village Center will show the sixth of nine films in its Marvelous Movies and More film series, the 1955 classic, Rebel Without a Cause, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Film critic Mike Giuliano will lead a short discussion after the film. Dessert and coffee are provided.

The cost is $7; $6 for senior citizens and students. Raffle prizes will be offered, and those who attend are encouraged to bring old tapes, digital video discs, compact discs and books to trade, sell or exchange.

A shuttle is available for senior citizens who need transportation.

`Guantanamo' to be shown March 21

The Maryland chapter of Grandmothers and Others for Peace will air Road to Guantanamo at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the central library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway.

The film tells the story of three British friends who were captured as suspected terrorists in Afghanistan.

Admission is free.

Volunteers needed -- Slayton House will celebrate its 40th birthday this summer with a "Fabulous at 40" birthday party sponsored by the Wilde Lake Community Association. The event, scheduled for June 16-17, will include entertainment, food, games, a tour of historic homes and a dedication. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate the event. Play-group -- Town Center Community Association is accepting registration for its spring session of Parents & Tots Play Groups, which begin the week of April 10. Children ages 24 months to 4 years old will meet Tuesdays; those ages 6 to 24 months will meet Wednesdays; and children ages 6 months to 4 years old will meet Thursdays. The 10-week groups meet from 10 a.m. to noon at Historic Oakland, 5430 Vantage Point Road. The cost is $25 per child for Columbia residents; $27.50 for nonresidents. Laughter workout -- Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is sponsoring Another Way to See It, a laughter club for those ages 55 and older. The program includes laughter exercises. The club meets from 9 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. Mondays at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way. 410-313- 7279.

Play games -- Slayton House, on Wilde Lake Village Green, offers drop-in bridge Tuesdays, Scrabble Wednesdays and a chance to bring a game to play Thursdays. The free sessions are held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the second and fourth weeks of each month. Drop-in mah-jongg for ages 18 and older is offered at Slayton House at 10 a.m. Wednesdays for adults. Yoga class -- Yoga Center of Columbia will continue to offer classes at Slayton House on Wilde Lake Village Green. Senior yoga is offered from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursdays, through April 5. The classes are slow-paced and emphasize stress reduction. The cost is $15 to drop in. Columbia lien payers can request a 10 percent discount. The classes are appropriate for all levels of experience, but it is recommended that those beginning an exercise program consult a physician before starting. Registration is required. 410-730-3987.
