Kindergarten registration

Registration for kindergarten for the 2007-2008 school year will be held tomorrow through Friday at the elementary school in your attendance area.

Kindergarten enrollment is mandatory for children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1. Parents must present the following information at registration:

A copy of their child's birth certificate or other legal document to verify their child's legal name and birth date.

Verification of residence.

Specific addresses from which the child will be transported to and after school. For questions about kindergarten, orientation or alternatives to kindergarten, contact the principal of the school your child will attend.

Schools to close early Wednesday

Carroll County public schools will close two hours and 45 minutes early for all students Wednesday for principal-directed professional development for teachers.

Schools will be closed Wednesday for half-day kindergarten pupils.

Family forums scheduled

Carroll County Public Schools will present five regional minority family forums titled "Helping All Families."

The forums will focus on how the community can help the school system support the role of families in addressing parental, economic, racial, religious and cultural issues affectingchildren's success.

All meetings will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and include a meal. Child care will be available. Reservations are required to Patricia Levroney, 125 N. Court St., Westminster, MD 21157.

Montessori School open house set

The Montessori School of Westminster will hold an open house for prospective students and their parents from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at 1055 Montessori Drive.

Inclusion workshop is March 28

An interactive workshop, "Meaningful Inclusion in Instructional Activities," for educators, instructional assistants and therapists will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 28 at Winters Mill High School, 560 Gorsuch Road, Westminster.

Carol Quirk from the Maryland Coalition for Inclusive Education will show participants how to: collaborate and brainstorm problems to find solutions; complete a daily student plan; meet IEP objectives and measure progress; and direct instructional assistants.

Family members are welcome to join their child's team or observe. Food will be served.

Institute focuses on education equity

The Carroll County Public Schools' Department of Minority Achievement and Intervention Programs will hold the annual "Education That is Multicultural and ESOL Summer Institute" from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 28 at Carroll Community College.

The theme is "A Passion for Equity in Education." The program will feature author Gary R. Howard, who has 35 years of experience in diversity leadership and training.

Breakfast and lunch will be offered. Stipends will be given to 10-month public school employees.

Registration is required by April 2.
