College Park -- When their portion of the NCAA tournament bracket flashed on the television screen in a room full of fans and boosters Monday night, the Maryland women's basketball players got the appropriate moment of satisfaction as the words "Defending champions" appeared next to the school's name.

But it didn't take long for ESPN analyst Kara Lawson to act as human buzz kill, asking the question hovering over the Terps' effort to repeat, namely: Can Maryland play defense long enough against good teams to make another successful run through the tournament field?
