Helen K. Sinnott, a retired registered nurse and former Lutherville resident, died of respiratory failure Monday at the Edenwald retirement community in Towson. She was 89.

Born and raised in Cumberland, Helen Kabosky was a 1938 graduate of the former Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore and worked at the former U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Wyman Park.

For many years, Mrs. Sinnott taught the pre-nursing program at Mercy and worked as a private-duty nurse while raising her family.

A resident of Guilford and later Lutherville, she was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening and playing golf and bridge. She was a member of the Three Arts Club of Homeland and a communicant of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Towson.

Her husband of 55 years, Robert I. Sinnott, a lawyer, died in 1995.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road.

Surviving are a son, Robert I. Sinnott Jr. of Timonium; a daughter, Bette Sinnott Lawrence of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
