Bay grasses

The lowdown -- Quick quiz: What's SAV? The answer is submerged aquatic vegetation. Learn what it is and why it is important to the bay as the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center hosts "Grasses to the Masses," a program geared toward restoring bay grasses.

FONZ

The lowdown -- Calling all fans of wildlife. Join the Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) in Washington as it celebrates the flora and fauna of North America. From hands-on activities and arts and crafts to book readings and animal feedings, this family-friendly event covers its bases.

The lowdown -- Find something green. Throw it on and head to Ocean City this weekend as the Delmarva Irish-American Club sponsors the 27th St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival. Tap your feet to the pipe and drum bands as they march down Coastal Highway. Stay for the Irish Festival at the 45th Street Shopping Center for face painting, Irish entertainment and music by the Off the Boat band featuring James Gallagher.

If you go -- The parade starts at noon Saturday at 61st Street. The festival is 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the 45th Street Shopping Center. Parade and festival are free. Call 410-723-8609 or go to ococean.com.
