Whitney Johnson scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half to lead three players in double figures as Morgan State defeated Hampton, 63-59, yesterday in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C.

The fourth-seeded Lady Bears (17-12) will take on top-seeded Coppin State in the semifinals at noon today.

The fifth-seeded Lady Pirates (15-13) were down by as many as 12, but had no answer for Johnson, who scored seven straight points during an 8-2 run by Morgan State.

Hampton was able to pull close during the game's final minutes, cutting the lead to three after a 6-2 run. However, it wasn't enough as Shalane Price sealed the victory for the Lady Bears at the free-throw line.

UNC Wilmington 55, Towson 41 -- The seventh-seeded Tigers were held to a Colonial Athletic Association tournament record-low 12 points in the first half before falling to the Seahawks, who became the first 10th-seeded team to advance out of the first round of the CAA tournament in Newark, Del.
