Maple Sugarin'

The lowdown -- Who doesn't love warm maple syrup dripping on morning pancakes and waffles? Want to learn how maple trees are tapped and how the sap is boiled into delicious syrup? Mark your calendar for Maple Sugarin' at the Cromwell Valley Park on Saturday.

If you go -- The event takes place 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Cromwell Valley Park, 2002 Cromwell Bridge Road. Everyone age 5 and older is invited. Admission is $2 for members and $4 for nonmembers. Reservations are required. Call 410-887-2503 for more information.

Time to rock

The lowdown -- The Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show this weekend is your chance to see things from deep inside the Earth. The event is hosted by the Gem, Lapidary and Mineral Society of Montgomery County.

If you go -- It takes place 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 16 Chestnut St. in Gaithersburg. Admission is $5 and free for students and those younger than 12. For more information, call 301-299-8213.

Eagle Festival

The lowdown -- Bird lovers can flock to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday for the Eagle Festival. It features activities for children and adults, including eagle prowls and demonstrations, a puppet show, bingo and a peregrine falcon demonstration.
