Megan McQuillan, a Severna Park resident, has made quite a mark for herself running and in the classroom. McQuillan, who has a weighted 4.18 grade point average and a 1,640 SAT score, is ranked eighth in her senior class of 126. She is vice president of the National Honor Society, has won numerous academic awards and was a Wendy's High School Heisman state finalist last fall. She runs cross country, indoor and outdoor track and is captain of all three Gators teams and has been named to several Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland all-star teams and The Sun's All-Baltimore City teams for distance running.

What have been the highlights of your running career at Seton Keough?

It's been a great experience. I've had the time of my life and we have won cross country and track championships. My team is amazing and I've done pretty well. Learning teamwork and different leadership skills has really helped me and will help me throughout my life. And I love school, and my favorite class is [Advanced Placement] history.

Any goals for your last season of outdoor track this spring? I really want to get PRs [personal records] by running 5:15 in the mile, and hopefully, in outdoor, we can have another championship like we had indoors.

What were your PRs this indoor season?

I had PRs in the 800 meters at 2:28.94, 5:31 in the 1,600 meters and 12:37 in the 3,200.

Your mom, Karen, is a nurse. Might you be following in her footsteps?

I will probably go into a medical career, maybe nursing, and I really want to run in college. I'm looking at [Division III] schools like Dickinson, Juniata and Ursinus. The field of medicine figures for me since my mom is a nurse and my dad [Bob] is a vice president of sales for vitamins. I had the most amazing experience working at the Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland last summer and it triggered my interests in nursing.

What other interests do you have besides running and studying?

I like singing, sailing, hiking and reading.
