FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Offensive miscues and solid Mary Washington post play were too much for the College of Notre Dame to overcome, as the Gators lost, 66-30, in a first-round game of the NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament last night.

The Eagles (27-2), who are ranked eighth in the latest USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll, won their 21st-straight game and advance to the second round where they will face Christopher Newport University, tomorrow at 7.

Notre Dame (18-7) committed a season-high 34 turnovers.

The Gators were within four, 14-10, with six minutes to play in the first half, but Mary Washington closed the half on a 16-5 run.

Junior center Liz Hickey (scored a game-high 17 points on 8-for-15 shooting. Senior forward Debbie Bruen added 11.

Mary Washington, which leads Division III in field-goal-percentage defense, held the Gators to 17.8 percent from the field.

Senior forward Kimberly Ordille scored a team-high 10 points for Notre Dame.
