New Town, Glen Burnie, Dunbar win regionals

Led by Stuart Clark's 27 points, New Town defeated visiting Elkton, 79-66, last night in the Class 1A North regional final.

The Titans (20-3) will play at Comcast Center next week.

New Town led 44-22 at the half and sustained its lead even after top inside player Will Thomas (11 points) fouled out early in the fourth quarter.

Danny DeSousa added 20 for the Titans.

No. 12 Glen Burnie 92, Thomas Stone 85 -- With three players scoring at least 20 points, the visiting Gophers (20-5) beat the Cougars to win the 4A North regional title and earn their third trip to Comcast Center in the past five years. Kareem Downs and DeSean Antoine led Glen Burnie with 24 points each, while Garrett Blackstone scored 20 and added 10 rebounds.

Fairmont Heights 75, No. 13 Atholton 69 -- Andre Whitmire scored 21 points to lead the visiting Hornets (19-4) to an upset victory over the Raiders (22-4) in the 2A South regional final. Fairmont Heights, which made 17 of 28 free-throw attempts, also received 15 points each from Khaalif Coppock-Bey and Keenan Perry. Atholton was led by Toney Fassett's 22 points.

Dunbar 61, Surrattsville 44 -- Four players scored in double figures for the Poets, who beat the visiting Hornets to win the 1A South regional title. Richard Brown IV and Eric Barksdale led all scorers with 13 points each.
