Bowie wins by 6 in CIAA quarters

Gil Goodrich (14 points) made two free throws with 2:41 left in the game to give Bowie State the lead for good as the visiting Bulldogs beat Johnson C. Smith, 68-62, in the quarterfinals of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament last night.

Bowie State (19-9) will face Elizabeth City State, a 57-55 winner over Virginia State, in the semifinals tonight at 9.

The Bulldogs led the Golden Bulls (16-9) for all but 38 seconds of the first half.

Tyronne Beale finished with a game-high 17 points for Bowie State.


James Madison 62, Towson 42 -- Three Dukes scored in double figures to beat the Tigers (17-11, 8-10). James Madison (25-4, 16-2 Colonial Athletic Association) earned its 26th consecutive home win, the longest current streak in Division I. Towson lost for the fifth time in its past six games. The Tigers are seeded seventh for the CAA tournament, which begins Thursday.
