Spring emerging

The lowdown -- Mr. Groundhog predicted an early spring this year. But, is his prediction right? Check out the Awakenings walk Saturday to look for clues that spring is on its way. Awakenings is Cromwell Valley Park's first class in its Senior Nature Series. Participants will first awaken their senses and then follow the trail to observe the emergence of spring.

If you go -- The event takes place 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The park is at 2002 Cromwell Bridge Road. Admission is $2 for members, $4 for nonmembers. The event is open to everyone 50 and older. Reservations required. For more information, call 410-887-2503

Eat and walk

The lowdown -- If you love long-distance walking then be sure to stop by the Freestate Happy Wanderers' noncompetitive 5K or 10K walks Sunday at the Severna Park Elks Lodge. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat full breakfast at the lodge and then head out for a relaxing cardiovascular workout.

If you go -- Start the walk between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and finish by 1 p.m. Breakfast is served 9 a.m.-11 a.m. The fee to participate is $3. The Severna Park Elks Lodge is at 160 Truck House Road in Severna Park. For more information, call 410-437-2164.

Home, garden and crafts

The lowdown -- Love gardening? Or are you simply in search of unique artwork for your home? Then check out the Maryland Home and Garden Show and Maryland Spring Craft Show at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium this weekend.

If you go -- The event takes place 4 p.m.-9 p.m. tomorrow, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. The Fairgrounds are at 2200 York Road in Timonium. Tickets are $10 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-12, and free for those younger than 6.
