(McDaniel to offer tax preparation assistance

McDaniel College will offer tax preparation assistance to those in need through the Internal Revenue Service's program, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).

VITA has this year been chosen by the IRS to be a test site for electronic filing.

Students will work directly through the IRS Web site to submit state and federal tax forms.

McDaniel students, alumni and staff volunteer to help Susan Milstein, business professor and program leader, in the computer lab in the basement of Lewis Hall.

Student volunteers are trained, and their work is reviewed by alumni and staff.

Hours for VITA help are: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, March 6, 8, 20, 22, 27, 29, and April 3 and 5; and noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 31 and April 7. Appointments are required.

The program is open to those who have an income of $40,000 or less. For appointments, call 410-871-3344.
