Groups plan discussion March 4 on military recruiting in schools

Local groups will sponsor a discussion, "Military Recruitment in Our Schools: What students (and parents) need to know before enlisting," a discussion of military contracts and what new recruits can expect, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. March 4 at Oakland Mills Interfaith Center, 5885 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia.

Speakers are John Judge, founder of the Committee for High School Options on Careers, Education and Self-Improvement, a group promoting civilian alternatives to military service, and Pat Elder, founding member of the National Network Opposing the Militarization of Youth and the Montgomery Coalition on Recruitment Issues.

There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.

The event is sponsored by the Columbia United Christian Church, Howard County Coalition for Peace and Justice, Howard County Friends of Latin America and Maryland Grandmothers and Others for Peace and Howard County Network of Spiritual Progressives.
