Library offering activities for children and adults

The central library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will offer "All Together Now," a series of programs of songs, stories and activities for children and adults.

All ages are welcome to participate in the 30-minute programs, which begin this week and are offered at 11 a.m. Fridays through March 30; 11 a.m. Saturdays through May 26; and 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday through May 16. Registration is not required.

"Play Partners," a series of programs for infants and toddlers to 23 months with an adult, will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, March 5 through April 30; and at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6 through May 15.

The 20- to 30-minute program includes stories, baby games and musical activities, followed by a short play time. Registration is not needed.

Candidates sought -- Wilde Lake Community Association is seeking candidates for five seats on the village board and one seat on the Columbia Council, also known as the Columbia Association board of directors. The positions are for one year, beginning May 1. The nomination period runs through March 7. Volunteers needed -- Slayton House will celebrate its 40th birthday this summer with a "Fabulous at 40" birthday party sponsored by the Wilde Lake Community Association. The event, scheduled for June 16-17, will include entertainment, food, games, a tour of historic homes and a dedication. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate the event. Laughter workout -- Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is sponsoring "Another Way to See It," a laughter club for those ages 55 and older. The program includes laughter exercises. The club meets from 9 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. Mondays at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way. The cost is $2 a class. 410-313-7279.

Yoga -- The Yoga Center of Columbia will continue to offer classes at Slayton House on Wilde Lake Village Green. "Baby and Me" is offered at 6:15 p.m. and "Adult Yoga" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays. A six-week session began last week. The cost is $90; $18 to drop in.

"Senior Yoga" is offered from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursdays, through March 27. The classes are slower-paced and emphasize yogic breathing and stress reduction. The cost is $78 for six weeks or $15 to drop in. Columbia lien payers can request a 10 percent discount. The classes are appropriate for all levels of experience. It is recommended that those beginning an exercise program should consult a physician before starting. Registration is required. There will be no refunds after the first class. 410-730-3987.

Gardening talk -- Slayton House will offer the last in a series of seminars presented by Howard County Master Gardeners, "Waking Up the Garden" with Deborah Patton, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Admission is free. The program is sponsored by the Wilde Lake Community Association.
