The six-time Wimbledon women's singles champion commented last week on the decision of the All England Lawn Tennis Club to yield to 21st-century realities and pay women winners at Wimbledon the same as men. "It was a long time coming," she said.

"WITH WOMEN AND MEN PAID ON AN EQUAL SCALE, IT DEMONSTRATES TO THE REST OF THE WORLD THAT THIS IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO FOR THE SPORT, THE TOURNAMNET AND THE WORLD."
