Jerry Pellegrino is a food and wine connoisseur, but he's not snooty about it. He's content to drink a glass of grape grown right here in Maryland or next door in Virginia. "It's really just a beverage, like anything else. No one worries about spending $100 on a bottle of beer," says Pellegrino, 42. His Federal Hill restaurant serves American vino from 16 states, including "wines from states you wouldn't expect, like a sparkling wine from New Mexico." Speaking of unexpected, I talked with Pellegrino while he was getting a pedicure. Maybe he's been stomping the grapes.

1. Yamaha DTXpress III electronic drum set "I'm a drummer by trade. So I can put the head phones on and make as much noise as I want."

2. A cryovac machine and thermo bath machine "There's a huge new trend in the cooking world, called sous vide. The thermo bath keeps water at a constant temperature. You seal food in a bag [with the cryovac] Then the food cooks in the bath at a low temperature. ... ."

3. Filson field coat "They make some of the greatest clothing in the world. ... I do a lot of skeet shooting. The coat lets me put a recoil pad on either shoulder. I'm a lefty so it's really hard to find."

4. Pioneer Elite 52-inch plasma TV "I love to watch concert videos on DVD. I'm a big fan of live music. You can re-create it in your home."

5. Parmigiani-Fleurier watch "I haven't worn a watch in 15 years. I think it's time that I grow up and become adult and wear a watch."
