Riding `The Waves' to trendiness

Postcard From Spring Training

February 24, 2007|By Peter Schmuck Peter Schmuck

If you're looking for Fort Lauderdale chic, the place to go is Las Olas Boulevard, where the trendies and the tourists come together to shop, eat and make me feel old.

Las Olas is Spanish for "The Waves," though it's pretty hard to hear the surf rolling over nearby Fort Lauderdale Beach above all the chewing and glass-clinking. The thoroughfare extends from the scenic shoreline to the downtown Arts & Entertainment District and includes a waterfront Riverwalk.

One of these days I'm actually going to make it all the way to the Museum of Discovery and Science.

Honest.
