Bush plan risks kids' insurance

More than 11,000 children in Maryland and hundreds of thousands nationwide are at risk of losing health coverage under a Bush administration plan that would scale back a popular program considered key to state efforts at protecting the uninsured. As part of his plan to balance the federal budget within five years, President Bush wants to narrow the scope of the State Children's Health Insurance Program, widely regarded as a recent health care success story. pg 1A

Canada acts on terror suspects

One of Canada's most contentious anti-terrorism provisions was struck down yesterday by the Supreme Court, which declared it unconstitutional to detain foreign terrorism suspects indefinitely while the courts review their deportation orders. pg 9A

Shakeup at Md. National Guard

The Maryland National Guard announced yesterday that its top general has stripped his senior Army recruiter of his command. Thirteen additional soldiers were also disciplined after an internal investigation found members of the recruiting battalion misappropriated $40,000 in training funds and, in at least two cases, signed up soldiers who were not eligible to serve. pg 1A

Chrysler talking to suitors

A senior Chrysler official said yesterday that the company is giving detailed financial information to selected potential suitors and is working with its investment bank, JPMorgan Chase & Co. pg 10C

J. Lewis open to new contract

Ravens running back Jamal Lewis is open to restructuring his contract and remaining with the Ravens for the 2007 season, the player's agent said. The Ravens have had preliminary discussions with Lewis about reworking his contract before they would be forced to cut him next Saturday, when he would receive a $5 million roster bonus. pg 1c
