Irene Geneva Wallace, a retired Baltimore elementary school teacher, died Saturday of cancer at Howard County General Hospital. The Glen Burnie resident was 78.

Born Irene Geneva Curry in Baltimore and raised in the Cedar Hill section of Brooklyn Park, she earned an education degree at what is now Coppin State University after raising her five sons.

She joined the city school system in 1974 and taught at Cherry Hill and Patapsco elementaries, retiring about 15 years ago.

Mrs. Wallace enjoyed listening to gospel music.

Services were held yesterday at First Baptist Church, 823 Cherry Hill Road, where she was a member.

Survivors include five sons, Richard Wallace of Glen Burnie, Ronald Wallace of Randallstown, Randolph Wallace of Baltimore, Robert Wallace of Clarksville and Raymond Wallace of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Robert Curry of Glen Burnie; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, Leon Wallace, died in 1998.
