Horizon Foundation names R.N. Sheff

Dr. Robert N. Sheff has been named chairman of the board of trustees of the Horizon Foundation, the local philanthropic organization addressing health and wellness in Howard County through grant-making and partnerships with public and private institutions.

Sheff served as chairman of the Medical Management Committee of the Patuxent Medical Group until his retirement in 2004. He was chairman of the boards of Humanim and the Columbia Foundation, and he was a member of the board of Leadership Howard County. He is chairman of Howard County General Hospital's Medical Review/Ethics Committee.

Sheff is the foundation's third chairman. Mary Ellen Duncan, president of Howard Community College since 1998, has been elected to the foundation's board. She was awarded the first Richard G. McCauley Leadership Award in 2004.

The award, which recognizes "transformative leadership," is named in honor of the Horizon Foundation's first board chairman.
