Maryland has failed to capitalize on 2002 national title

February 11, 2007|By RICK MAESE

Atouch of perspective has been lost in all of last week's talk about poor recruiting, placid defense and an intensity level often rivaling that of a dead car battery. Turns out, the Maryland men's basketball team could be on the verge of history -- albeit nothing worth bragging about.

Put me in the camp that believes a loss tonight against Duke dooms the Terps' chances for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. Even with a win over the Blue Devils, the Terps still would have to perform a minor miracle to receive an invitation without the aid of the conference tournament title.
