First Citizens Bank opening branch

First Citizens Bank will open a branch tomorrow at 890 Bestgate Road in Annapolis. It will offer drive-through lanes and automated teller machines.

The bank will consolidate business from the branch at 1967 West St.

Prizes awarded in homeland security

Scantech Holdings LLC of Atlanta, the national winner, and Sensics Inc. of Baltimore, the Maryland winner, took home $50,000 each as winners of the first Defend America Challenge, the Chesapeake Innovation Center's national homeland security technology business plan competition.

The center in Parole is Anne Arundel County's business incubator.

On Jan. 19, six finalists, selected from more than 50 applicants, presented their business plans before eight judges and more than 160 attendees.

Scantech assembles and markets sophisticated high-energy electron beam and X-ray inspection systems. Sensics produces virtual prototyping, training, visualization, entertainment and remote presence applications.

Bank to add airport branch

M&T Bank will open a full-service bank branch at BWI Marshall Airport.

M&T has nine ATMs at the airport and plans to install two more. Its Mid-Atlantic headquarters is in Baltimore.

Tech Council to hold work-force session

The Anne Arundel Tech Council will hold a Technology Workforce Roundtable from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 20 at Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp., 2660 Riva Road, Suite 200 in Annapolis.

The roundtable will focus on kindergarten-through-12th-grade education, recruitment and retention.

Porcari to address Signature Breakfast

The BWI Business Partnership will hold its next Signature Breakfast at 7:45 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Holiday Inn BWI Airport, 890 Elkridge Landing Road.

Secretary of Transportation John D. Porcari will talk about the future of Maryland's transportation systems.

The breakfast meeting is free for members and $40 for others. Reservations are required by Feb. 19.

Hanley certified for irrigation work

Mike Hanley, a sales representative for Atlantic Lighting & Irrigation, has received the Certified Irrigation Contractor certification from the national Irrigation Association.

Hanley, a Kent Island resident, has more than 10 years of experience in the home improvement industry.
