REALITY CHECK

February 10, 2007|By SARAH KICKLER KELBER

It's true that the humiliating-auditions portion of each American Idol season garners some of the highest ratings. But I, for one, am beyond pleased to be past the delusions-of-talent-as-punch-line portion and on to the actual-singing-ability part of the show. I much prefer to hear the good people performing than the fakers, the costume-wearers, the bellowers, the whisperers and, of course, the bawlers. Starting Tuesday, we're (we can only hope) moving to that point.
