State Men This Week

February 05, 2007|By [Compiled by Paul McMullen]

Coppin State (6-16, 4-6)

Coming up / / Norfolk State at Coppin Center, Saturday, 4 p.m.

Comment / / Junior forward Antwan Harrison is averaging 11.1 points on 51.3 percent shooting in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference games. The Eagles play five of their last eight at home.

Loyola (13-9, 9-3)

Coming up / / At Fairfield tonight, 7:30; Canisius at Reitz Arena, Friday, 9 p.m., ESPNU; Fairfield at Reitz Arena, Sunday, 4 p.m., MAAC TV

Comment / / Second-leading rebounder Michael Tuck (ankle sprain) will miss his fifth straight game for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference leaders. Senior forward Josko Alujevic is averaging 5.1 rebounds after snaring 2.6 over his first three seasons.

Maryland (17-6, 3-5)

Coming up / / Virginia at Comcast Center, tomorrow, 9 p.m., Comcast SportsNet; Duke at Comcast Center, Sunday, 5 p.m., Ch. 45

Comment / / Five of the Terps' last eight regular-season games will be at Comcast Center. If they had beaten Miami there on Jan. 10, there would be a lot less angst in College Park.

Morgan State (8-12, 6-3)

Coming up / / At Delaware State, tonight, 7:30; Hampton at Hill Field House, Saturday, 4 p.m.

Comment / / The Bears' four-game winning streak in the MEAC means nothing in Dover, but they can make a run at second place by holding serve at home. All three big men are shooting better than 50 percent from the field.

Mount St. Mary's (8-15, 7-5)

Coming up / / Saint Francis (Pa.) at Knott Arena, Thursday, 7 p.m.; Robert Morris at Knott Arena, Saturday, 7 p.m.

Comment / / The Mountaineers play three of their next four in Emmitsburg, where they're 5-1 in Northeast Conference games. Senior guard Mychal Kearse is averaging 14.7 points in NEC games.

Navy (11-12, 1-7)

Coming up / / At Lehigh, Wednesday, 7 p.m.; at Lafayette, Saturday, 4 p.m.

Comment / / The Midshipmen's only Patriot League win came over Lafayette. Still searching for the right combination, coach Billy Lange used 14 players against Bucknell.

Towson (12-12, 6-7)

Coming up / / At Northeastern, Wednesday, 7 p.m.; Georgia State at Towson Center, Saturday, 2 p.m.

Comment / / Gary Neal and Tommy Breaux were the only Tigers to attempt a free throw in Saturday's loss at Drexel. On Saturday, they can avenge a double-overtime loss in Atlanta.

UMBC (9-15, 5-6)

Coming up / / At Vermont Thursday, 7 p.m.

Comment / / The Retrievers, who had a great crowd for Saturday's perplexing loss to Stony Brook, have averaged just 48.3 points in their past four games.

UMES (3-19, 0-10)

Coming up / / South Carolina State at Hytche Center, tonight, 7:30.

Comment / / The Hawks are shooting 38.7 percent from the field as a team. Sophomore guard Ed Tyson (Walbrook) is averaging a team-high 13.9 points.
