True shopaholics know there's nothing better than shopping with a girlfriend. That's the idea behind Toni James' new store. James, who also owns Katwalk on Read Street with her husband, Justin, has geared Girlfriends to a younger crowd, mostly 15-to-35-year-olds. There are a number of high schools surrounding the mall, James says, which gives the store a ready-made audience.

"The concept," she adds, "is to come in with a girlfriend."

The clothes are young, fun, fashion-forward and, best of all, very affordable, featuring lines like Yag, a sporty brand, and Heatherette's funky chic designs. New styles arrive in the store twice a week. Look for lots of denim, sweat shirts, graphics and fun accessories, as well as dressier clothes.

The concept has worked well so far. The Jameses are looking at other locations where they can open more Girlfriends stores.
