HCC Kids Program to hold open house

Harford Community College will hold a Preschool Open House for its HCC Kids Program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in Joppa Hall, Room 014 on the Bel Air campus.

Parents can meet the instructors, learn about the program and register their children for fall classes.

The curriculum includes music, art, crafts, story time, drama, science, math and language arts. Tuition includes a balanced snack and all materials.

Children must be toilet trained. Registration is first come, first served.

Christian school plans open house

Harford Christian School will hold an open house from 9:45 a.m. to noon Saturday at the school on Whiteford Road, a mile north of Dublin.

The program will include an orientation for families not connected with the school, a ministry of the Evangelical Methodist Church for kindergarten through 12th grade.

Nursery school to hold open house

Forest Hill Nursery School, a nonprofit cooperative school for 3- and 4-year-olds, will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at 2409 Rocks Road.

Parents and children can meet the teachers, learn about programs and explore classrooms. Registration is requested.

Event to offer help with financial aid

Students wishing to apply for federal financial aid for college can get free assistance at College Goal Sunday, which will begin at 2 p.m. Feb. 1 at the HEAT Center in Aberdeen.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be filled out to qualify for scholarships, grants and loans.

Students need to take proof of 2006 income and benefits information, such as completed federal income tax returns and W-2 forms, or proof of untaxed income, for the student and the parents.

The event is being held by the DE-DC-MD Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Inc.

CCC offers course in air conditioning

Cecil Community College is offering a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning I course from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 13 to March 15 at the Cecil County School of Technology in North East.

This course provides an overview of air conditioning and refrigeration as used in residential, light commercial and industrial applications.

Tuition is $310, and the course fee is $125.

Test preparation class offered

Harford Community College is offering the Certified Information Systems Security Professional certification, a test preparation class for the CISSP certification exam.

The certification is intended for information security professionals.

The course runs from Feb. 15 to March 15 at the Higher Education and Conference Center at HEAT. Sessions will be held from 6 p.m. to 10:10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays.

Workshop offered on making sweaters

Harford Community College will hold a workshop on the Norwegian cardigan sweater from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 17 and 18 in Joppa Hall on the Bel Air campus.

Techniques include circularly knitted body and sleeves, square and drop-shoulder armholes, cut-and-sew armholes and front, knitted self-facings, two-color star and checkerboard patterns.

The workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced knitters. Experience with double-pointed needles is helpful.
