Former Anne Arundel County Executive and state comptroller candidate Janet S. Owens has wasted no time in moving on to a post-political life. She and her husband are building a new home in Crownsville, and she recently joined the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation Inc.
"Actually, it's been a great time for me. I had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends, and I'm looking at alternatives in the private sector," Owens said yesterday.
"I get great pleasure in going to the store and having people come up and talk to me. It's extraordinarily rewarding," she said. "When you're in the hot seat, all you tend to hear is negative stuff."
Is politics still in her future?
"I do miss politics, and I'd never rule out not running for public office again. I love campaigning, and I'm an administrator. I like running things, and that's why being county executive was the best job in the whole world," she said.
"But right now, I'm serving as project manager with the new house. It has a pantry and plenty of closets to house all of the things people have given me over the last eight years," she said. "And the best thing is, there's no grass to cut."
