Dedication set today for new lab at Poly

February 01, 2007

A Hanover-based construction company has designed and built a lab for science and art at Polytechnic Institute valued at $100,000.

Poly officials say it is the school's first major gift from an African-American-owned company.

The donation came about when Poly Principal Barney Wilson told the Commercial Interiors vice president, an alumnus of the school, about his vision for a space for students to work on robotics and art. As a result, Commercial Interiors used a gutted mechanics room at the school to build the lab.

Other Poly alumni donated supplies and equipment.

The donation will be recognized at the lab's dedication tonight.
