Charles Maranto, 74

Charles Anthony Maranto, a retired Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. buyer, died of heart failure Sunday at the home of a niece in Eldersburg. The Pikesville resident was 74.

Mr. Maranto was born and raised in Baltimore and graduated from Calvert Hall College High School in 1950. He served in the Coast Guard in the early 1950s, and remained an active reservist until 1960.

He was hired by BGE in 1951, and worked as a buyer until retiring in 1992.

A longtime Randallstown resident, he moved to Pikesville in 1998. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Turf Valley Country Club.

Mr. Maranto enjoyed playing poker, going to the races, and following National Football League teams.

His wife of 33 years, the former Concetta Catonzaro died in 1998.

Mr. Maranto was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 9535 Liberty Road in Randallstown, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Surviving are a stepson, Richard Ashburn of Baltimore; two sisters, Angelina Johe of Eldersburg and Nicolette Jessop of Catonsville; and several nieces and nephews.
