Man held in teen sex case

January 29, 2007

A city man has been arrested and charged with sex crimes against a 14-year-old girl who had been missing for nearly a week after leaving her Fallston home, and other arrests are expected, authorities said yesterday.

The teenager was found Friday night in a house in the 1600 block of N. Longwood St. in West Baltimore by officers responding to a 911 call from a person who recognized the girl from a photo shown on a television news account of her disappearance, state police said. Others in the house were taken into custody.

Police said investigators determined that the girl had taken a taxi Jan. 21 from her home to the AMC Loews movie theater at White Marsh, where she met and watched a movie with two men. That afternoon, according to a document filed in Baltimore's District Court, she and the men went to America's Best motel in the 6500 block of Frankford Ave.

A motel employee who later learned that the girl had been reported missing contacted police and told of seeing her there, and video surveillance showed her arriving at the motel with two men, including the suspect, according to the court document.

The suspect, Allex Venable, 22, of the 2100 block of Sinclair Lane, was arrested before the girl was found, according to the document, but authorities did not say where he was arrested.
