The Howard County Board of Education will hold a public hearing on a proposal to acquire 41 acres at 2865 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville, owned by St. John Baptist Church, in exchange for a 10-acre plot owned by the school system at Tamar Drive and Route 175 and a monetary amount to be determined.

The afternoon and evening sessions begin with a public forum during which members of the public can address the board on any topic for which there is no formal public hearing process. Sign-up in advance is preferred.

Those interested in testifying at the public hearing should limit their presentation to three minutes and provide 15 written copies of the testimony at the time of the hearing.

Senior Tax Credit Task Force to meet

Howard County's Senior Tax Credit Task Force will hold its third meeting at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Ellicott Room of the George Howard Building.

The meeting is open to the public.

The task force is a citizens committee created by the County Council to determine, by Feb. 15, any changes that should be made to a law that grants a 25 percent property tax cut to those ages 70 and older, whose incomes are less than $75,000 a year. The law requires a freeze at the discounted level for qualified seniors' tax bills.

A public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Banneker Room of the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City. Comments and suggestions are invited.

The committee must examine the size of the tax cut (25 percent) and the income limit ($75,000) by the February deadline.

Information: 410-313-2001.
