Cecil college tops fundraising goal

Cecil Community College wrapped up its $3 million Opportunity Campaign Dec. 31, exceeding its goal by nearly $200,000.

The college's first comprehensive fundraising campaign, which started in the spring of 2003, raised $3,184,254 from 462 gifts, ranging from $5 to $1.1 million, by individuals, foundations, corporations, faculty and staff members, and alumni.

The goal was to raise $1 million apiece for three programs in the Cecil Community College Strategic Plan 2005-2010: student assistance, information technology and work force development.

The money is being deposited in an endowment fund, which generates interest and is managed by the volunteer directors of the CCC Foundation. A portion of the interest will be used each year to support operations, while the principal remains invested to ensure that the fund continues to generate operational dollars.

In addition to monetary donations, Cecil was given property, land improvements, stock and future contributions from irrevocable estate and planned gifts.
