Aberdeen girls edge Joppatowne, 58-57

Anissa Alexander made a free throw with 12.4 seconds left to give visiting Aberdeen a 58-57 victory over Joppatowne in an Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference game last night.

Aberdeen improved to 5-4 overall, 4-1 in the conference.

Joppatowne (7-3, 3-2) got 21 points each from Arielle Townes and Destinee Macklin.

No. 4 Old Mill 43, South River 15 -- Pins by Willie Pumphrey (119), Tim Lobuglio (135), Nic Box (152) and Ryan Hertz (171) paced the defending Anne Arundel County dual meet champion Patriots (7-2, 7-0), who also received decisions from top-ranked 285-pounder Justin Faithful (21-0) by 3-0 over Eric Mauler (20-5), and Ethan Brown (215) by 4-3 over Pat LaPaglia. Old Mill's Jason West (103) earned a major decision, state champ Greg Saumenig (125) improved his record to 20-3 when his bout was forfeited, and Patrick Benjamin (160) won a decision for Old Mill. The Seahawks (5-4, 4-3), winners of their own Seahawk Invitational over the weekend for the first time in its 16-year history, got decisions from tournament champs Curtis Taylor (103), Tyler Stubbs (140) and Mike Townsend (145). Stubbs earned a major decision in his match.
