Volunteers sought to count homeless

Baltimore Homeless Services is looking for volunteers to count and interview homeless people during the 2007 Homeless Census.

The census will be held Jan. 26 during a 24-hour period, as required by federal officials.

In 2005, the last time the city conducted a census of the homeless, volunteers counted 2,943 people who said they were without regular shelter. It is estimated that between 6,522 and 7,023 Baltimore residents are homeless at some point during the course of a year.

For more information about the census or to volunteer, contact Maureen Sarver at maureen.sarver@baltimorecity.gov by tomorrow.
