MARYASHA GARELIK, 106 Lubavitch elder

"Bubbe" Maryasha Garelik, who survived the pogroms of czarist Russia, Soviet anti-Semitism and Nazi terror and then dispensed her wisdom to thousands of Lubavitch Jews, died Wednesday in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Some of her descendants are Lubavitch emissaries in Australia, China, England, France, Panama and South Africa.
