Drug-abuse forum set for Saturday

The Harford County Office of Drug Control Policy will take part in a drug and alcohol prevention symposium titled "Know Means No!" at 6 p.m. Saturday at Evangelistic Church of Deliverance, 325 St. John St., Havre de Grace.

Joseph Ryan, manager of the Office of Drug Control Policy, will present "A Snapshot of Drugs in Harford County" to educate the public about the current trends in the county.

"Our office needs the understanding and assistance from the whole community to tackle the problems of drug and alcohol use, abuse and addiction," Ryan said. "In this instance, we are partnering with a local church to get this important message to the residents of Havre de Grace and surrounding communities."

Jarrettsville man wins safety award

An eight-year veteran member of the Harford County Hazardous Materials Response Team and volunteer firefighter has been named as the first-ever Safety Hero of the Year by SafetyXChange, an online community for safety professionals.

Jeffrey Ambrose of Jarrettsville received the honor recently in Seattle.

Ambrose, who works as an area safety manager for Clark Construction Group in Washington, received the award in recognition for his outstanding achievement and dedication to workplace health and safety.

He was acknowledged as a safety professional who demonstrates personal commitment to safety both inside and outside the workplace, said officials at Bongarde Media, the parent company of SafetyXChange.
