After road wins, UMBC tries to raise home record

January 09, 2007

UMBC has proved it can win on the road. Now, the Retrievers will try to improve on a 1-3 record at the RAC Arena, where they have important America East Conference games tonight and Thursday.

Tonight's opponent is Albany, which made its first NCAA tournament appearance last season and put a scare into Connecticut. On Thursday, the Retrievers face Vermont, which represented the America East in the NCAAs the previous three years and beat Syracuse in the 2005 tournament. Both games start at 7 p.m.

UMBC won once on the road all last season but twice last week, at Binghamton and Stony Brook. Sixth man Brian Hodges, who is averaging 19.6 points over his past 10 games, is the America East Player of the Week, the first time a Retriever has earned that honor twice in one season.
