Hearing Thursday on county budget

A public hearing will be held Thursday to give residents a chance to make comments and funding recommendations for next year's county budget.

The session will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Fallston High School, 2301 Carrs Mill Road and will be attended by County Executive David R. Craig and top members of his administration.

Those unable to attend are encouraged to send suggestions in writing to Craig, Harford County Government, 220 S. Main St., Bel Air 21014.

"FY08 Budget" should be printed in the lower left corner of the envelope. Comments must be received by Jan. 31.

Information: 410-638-3343.

Training to be held in combating abuse

The Sexual Assault/Spouse Abuse Resource Center Inc. will hold a Crisis Response and Companion Training beginning Jan. 15.

SARC is Harford County's private nonprofit service provider for victims of stalking, and domestic and sexual violence.

Those interested should call for an application and to set up an interview. SARC's 30-hour training encompasses domestic and sexual violence, and basic techniques in crisis response.

An additional eight hours of training is provided for those interested in becoming hospital companions.

SARC needs volunteers and companions to help provide services to clients, particularly via the agency's 24-hour Helpline. Days and times of volunteer shifts are very flexible.

Many volunteer roles are available.

Information: 410-836-8431, ext. 20, or Volunteers@sarc-maryland.org.
