January 01, 2007|By PAT O'MALLEY | PAT O'MALLEY,SUN REPORTER

Josh Selby, a freshman boys basketball player at John Carroll, emerged as a consensus Top 20 player for the class of 2010 at the Adidas Phenom 150 camp past summer in San Diego.

Justin Young, Rivals.com basketball recruiting analyst, wrote: "He is fearless with the ball."

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound point guard was named to the Adidas Phenom All-Star team for ninth-graders. Selby impressed with the way he consistently attacked the basket with highlight-reel dunks and also made three-pointers from NBA distance.

Selby scored 30 points in 25 minutes of running time in one game.

Patriots coach Tony Martin, who coached Derrick Snowden, The Sun's Player of the Year at Spalding in 1999-2000, said Selby has "unlimited potential."
