With Mcnair On Board, Super Bowl In Sights

January 01, 2007|By JAMISON HENSLEY | JAMISON HENSLEY,SUN REPORTER

The Ravens have returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2003, riding a strong defense and the strong will of Steve McNair.

Once again among the elite defenses, the Ravens have shut down offenses by swarming to running backs and crushing quarterbacks with an aggressive and unpredictable game plan.

But unlike previous Ravens teams, the defense has not had to carry the team.

McNair, the Ravens' first-year starting quarterback, has rejuvenated the team with his timely touchdown passes and his clutch play, leading the Ravens to three fourth-quarter comebacks this season.

McNair said the reason he wanted to be traded to the Ravens was to win the first Super Bowl of his 12-year career. Now, he is a few victories from accomplishing his goal.
