St. Paul's topples Key, 57-34

The St. Paul's basketball team defeated Key, 57-34, last night in the second round consolation game of the North Carroll tournament.

Denmore McDermott scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for St. Paul's (6-6) and was named to the all-tournament team. He also had 34 points and 10 rebounds in a loss against Westlake two nights ago.

Also named to the all-tournament team was Sidney McCray, who led the Eagles with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

South Carroll 55, Hereford 49 -- Chris Weitzel scored 21 points for the Cavaliers (1-6) as they won the second consolation game of the North Carroll tournament. Ben Wareheim scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Bulls (2-6). Both Weitzel and Wareheim made the all-tournament team.

No. 6 Lake Clifton 85, Churchill 36 -- Terrance Jones had 25 points to lead the Lakers over Churchill. Lake Clifton (6-0) broke the game open with a 16-4 run in the second period. Lake Clifton plays High Point from Prince George's County tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Girls basketball

NDP 65, Key 45 -- The Blazers improved to 3-7 with a win over the Eagles in the consolation game of the North Carroll tournament. Alee Pagnotti scored 31 points and added 16 rebounds for NDP.

Holy Cross 63, No. 4 Arundel 49 -- Shontice Simmons scored 25 points and Robin Colbert had 12 as Holy Cross of Prince George's County beat Arundel. The Panthers (9-2) led 33-27 at halftime and controlled the game throughout. The Wildcats got 10 points apiece from Ashley Davis, Brittany Watts and Simone Egwu (18 rebounds), but dropped to 3-3 this season.
