December 27, 2006|By Richard Irwin

A man was fatally shot last night on a street in East Baltimore, bringing the city's homicide toll this year to 271 - two more than for all of 2005, police said.

Southeastern District officers responding to a shooting in the first block of N. Clinton St. about 8:35 p.m. found the victim lying on the pavement, and bleeding from at least one wound to the face, said Officer Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman.

The victim, whose name was withheld pending notification of family members, died a short time later at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, police said.

Investigators knew of no motive for the shooting and had no suspects. Metro Crime Stoppers at 410-276-8888 is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the slaying.
