By rushing for more than 100 yards in each of the past four games for the Washington Redskins, running back Ladell Betts has gone from a capable fill-in for injured star Clinton Portis to a potential starter next season.

While being respectful of Portis' stature as the team's lead back - a position Portis earned by averaging nearly 1,500 yards a season in his first four years in the NFL - Betts didn't back down when asked this week about the competition next summer for the No. 1 job.
