Blood drive slated Dec. 21

An American Red Cross Community Blood Drive will be held from noon to 5:15 p.m. Dec. 21 at The Other Barn, 5851 Robert Oliver Place.

There is a critical need for blood donations.

Participants will receive a T-shirt and as many as three one-year magazine subscriptions as a gift from the Red Cross.

The Oakland Mills Community Association is holding a nonperishable food drive through Dec. 20. Nonperishable food items should be brought to The Other Barn and will be delivered to the Howard County Food Bank.

Talk on Jewish Messianism offered

The Columbia Jewish Congregation will sponsor a talk by Susannah Garfein from 9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. today at Oakland Mills High School on "The Birth of Jewish Messianism".

The congregation meets at the Oakland Mills Interfaith Center.

Handmade cards -- "Stamping with Gina," a workshop on using stamping techniques to create handmade cards with a professional look, will be offered from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow at The Other Barn in Oakland Mills Village Center, 5851 Robert Oliver Place. Hatha yoga -- Kings Contrivance Community Association is offering Hatha yoga for experienced students. The cost is $120 to $130 for 10 weeks; the cost for drop-in attendance is $16 a class. Itsy Bitsy Yoga, a new Saturday program, is designed for parents and babies ages 3 weeks and older. The cost is $69. Ballet and tap classes for children ages 4 to 6, taught by Sandra Duerr, are offered Mondays. A "Holiday Dance With Me" program for toddlers and an adult will be offered Dec. 20. Judy Milke leads parent-and-child classes for children ages 14 months to 4 years. Classes are offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, depending on the age of the child. A pre-holiday stress-reduction yoga class for beginner and advanced students, taught by Mary Frankos, will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. Beginning bridge -- The course "Bridge for the Absolute Beginner" will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the 50+ Center at the east Columbia library. The six-week class costs $60, plus $5 for a textbook. A drop-in bridge program is being offered from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesdays at the same location. Players at all levels are welcome to refresh skills, learn bridge conventions and meet friends. Mentoring is available. The cost is $6. Lessons in mah-jongg are also offered at the 50+ Center. La Leche -- La Leche League of Columbia PM meets the third Tuesday of each month at Owen Brown Community Center, 6800 Cradlerock Way. The group offers support and guidance to breast-feeding mothers. Belly dance -- Long Reach Community Association will offer belly-dancing classes for adults from Jan. 8 through March 12.
